Save the Elephants of Thailand
New project to feed thousands of Thai elephants using protein-rich hemp biomass
Thailand is home to more than 3,800 domesticated elephants. Many of these elephants are slowly starving to death as the country continues to face drops in tourism during the pandemic.
Why not feed the elephants with one of the most sustainable, protein-rich crops on earth?
In collaboration with Oregon State University and the Maetaeng province – home to several elephant parks – Dr. Aimon Kopera and Geneomics Global have announced a new project to support the elephants as well as local farmers.
The project will work with co-op farmers to cultivate hemp, processing its protein-rich by-products into food for elephants and other materials.
The hemp plant, native to Thailand, offers one of the most abundant protein sources in the world, making it a veritable superfood for humans and animals alike.
